Who Do You See?
All Saints: Gospel, Matthew 5:1-12
Matthew 5:1-12
I love the Beatitudes and I know I have commented on them in past years. And I most likely will repeat myself here, because there is one stunning perspective that has captured me since I encountered it several years ago. It is so easy for us to read the beatitudes and simply see it as another passage of “how I ought to be.” While it is a guide to heart and hands it is so much more. I can offer this briefly but its importance outweighs its brevity. The beatitudes are the most lovely picture of Jesus in words. Words of counsel and expectation, yes. But words of description as they apply to our most wonderful Savior. May I offer a prayer for all of us:
Dearest Savior and Friend-
So many times in Your Word You give us counsel to return to You, to look to You, to worship You. And we do. All those things happen because we see You. We gaze on You in the Word of God. We see You in the sacraments given to us for our good. We look upon You because and only because You have come to us. Blessed be the name of the Lord! Amen.
Read these familiar words and then tell me, who do you see?
