What Our Eyes Don’t See

The Transfiguration: Gospel, Matthew 17:1-9

Matthew 17:1-9

So here we are. The gospel for the week is the Transfiguration. Three of Jesus’ disciples get to be there. Moses and Elijah are esteemed guests. But the focus? The focus is on Jesus. The focus is always to be on Jesus. Here for a somewhat brief bit of time, Jesus allows Himself to be seen as He is. The Father’s voice once again confirms His place in the Holy Trinity. And the eyes and ears of everyday men get to stand as witnesses. God the Son showing them, and showing us, what our eyes normally do not see. Theirs was a sneak peek. And I’m glad we get to share it through holy writ. But one day … one day our eyes will see as well. And it will be no sneak peek, but a gaze without end. *Author sighs with longing.*

Come, Lord Jesus!
