Seventh Sunday in Easter: Psalm 133
Psalm 133
I love this psalm. Who wouldn’t love it? That is, if you have experienced what it is to know the bond of love which God has given to those who love his Son. The opening statement, followed by an Old Testament picture gives place to such fulfillment in Christ.
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes.”
Psalm 133:1-2
The description, a bit strange to our ears perhaps. But it points to the anointing of the priests and the oil depicts the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit as the anointed one enters into his service. It is the work of the Spirit to bring unity to God’s people when we are engaged in our vocations and callings. When the body of Christ is acting as a body, every member is critically important. In fact, the right ordering of the body where every member cares for, prays for, and sacrifices for the others is the way of true Christian unity. God grant it. Amen!
