Sunday of the Passion: Epistle, Philippians 2:5-11

Philippians 2:5-11

All of the Bible is important to read, to ponder and to make concerted efforts to understand as best as we’re able. The epistle lesson attached to the Sunday of the Passion, of course has connection to this Sunday of the calendar. Perhaps it is important to see it, not only as a demonstration of the descent of Christ into true humanity, but as that which ultimately displays that universal and triumphant declaration that Jesus is Lord. Of course that must be seen as one of the passages' great elements.

It is difficult to put pen to this passage from the perspective that I really do not and cannot grasp the depth of God becoming human. I don’t want to shy away from this passage, but I don’t like commenting on it either. Frankly, it frightens me a bit. Always has.

It also lends joy. For while I do not pretend to be able to scratch the surface of the mystery described in verses 5-11, there is a clarity to the end game of God. Jesus will finally and fully be acknowledged for just who He is. Even those who will descend into utter darkness for all eternity will declare the full truth about Jesus. Every soul ever conceived will be illumined by the truth about Jesus. No matter your eternal address.

Yep. This passage still frightens me a bit. I pray you get my drift.
