The Plan
Fourth Sunday in Advent: Old Testament, Isaiah 7:10-17
Isaiah 7:10-17
God will have His way. If we brought that statement down to us, well we might have a completely different take on it. When you and I insist on getting our way and we do it well from birth, it can include stomping feet and tantrums of many varieties. Not so when it is applied to the God of the Bible. He will have His way and His way is good. All around.
The Old Testament reading we opened for this week we will see again on Christmas Eve. A portion, anyway. Isaiah is tagged often as “the Fifth Evangelist,” so pointed is He in shining the light on the coming Hope of Israel. In chapter seven we have the promise of a child unlike any other to be born of women. In fact, we are told, and the New Testament authors confirm it, that this child will be born of a virgin and carry the name “Immanuel.” Christians know the meaning well: “God With Us.” Yes, the baby Jesus is God in human flesh. Born for us to die for us.
He is our hope. He is the Father’s plan. For you and for all, may God have His way. Amen!
