The Good Word
Fourth Sunday of Easter: First Reading, Acts 20:17-35
Acts 20:17-35
What a stunning portion of text is Paul’s instruction to other gathered elders in Acts 20. And we are this week only considering a portion of his guidance. All of his exhortation that I have marked has to do with what Paul is speaking, both privately and publicly when Jesus is the subject. I am simply going to write these texts and offer them to you for some solid, prayerful consideration. Oh and think a bit on whether or not you are hearing these themes regularly from those who teach you. You should be.
“.... repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (20:21b).
“.... the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God” (20:24b).
“.... preaching the kingdom of God” (17:25b).
“For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God ….” (17:25a)
“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified” (17:32).
“.... the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’” (17:35b).
Drink deeply.
