Third Sunday after Epiphany: Epistle, 1 Corinthians 12:12-31a

1 Corinthians 12:12-31a

Someone once set a lesson before me: “Think of the intricacies of the watch upon my wrist. Think of the engineering, the attention to detail, the artistry of the one who crafted its parts into a working whole. Now think of the intricacies of the hand over which the watch is draped. Which is the more exquisitely crafted creation?”

I have never forgotten that example which of course points to the fact that God’s creation of the human “machine” dwarfs anything that man has set his creative force upon. And there are wonderful creations in man’s archive.

In our reading today, the apostle Paul brings to light the craft of the Creator in the building of His church. Parts and pieces, gifts and gradations all combine to set at work and at worship His people. His BODY.

He knows what He’s doing.
