Something Must Be Done
Second Sunday in Lent: Gospel, Luke 13:31-35
Luke 13:31-35
It’s hard to say with 100% certainty when Jesus really “knew” all that lay before Him on His Father’s mission. Certainly, by the time he stunned the crowd in the temple with His teaching at age 12, He was in the know, at least in part.
Jesus was going to accomplish the Father’s mission. There is no doubt in the gospel accounts about that. And in our gospel reading this week, neither the Pharisees’ warning, nor the “secondary” tasks before Him would alter His course.
Jerusalem, the center of His final week, was not only a location, but a people. And the Savior’s heart broke for those who would not heed His message nor embrace His final sacrifice. On this second Sunday of Lent, allow yourself to draw close to the tears of Jesus that You might rejoice in all He accomplished for Jerusalem and for you.
