Saved By Works

Hebrews 10:5-10

We find ourselves coming to the close of the Advent season. Rightly the focus is on the coming of the Savior. Both appearances. Born at just the right time (Galatians 4:4), His coming in full glory will also be at the appointed time of the Father.

Our Savior did not only come to “be,” but to do. And it is that doing that secures for us a home in His presence forever. As our reading today points to a greater sacrifice than those prescribed by the Old Covenant, the Savior “says of Himself” quoting Psalm 40, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God” (Hebrews 10:7).

He has done the Father’s will. Perfectly from beginning to end. The Father is pleased. We are saved by works.

The works of another.

God be praised!
