Proper 28: Old Testament, Malachi 4:1-6                            

Malachi 4:1-6

The final chapter of our Old Testament begins in a blaze. Read just the first verse. My brief comments focus on that very beginning of our reading. Simply put, there is a day of judgment coming. On the way. We do not know when. Many today speculate on its arrival. My thought for the people of God and those we love, our neighbors, is this: better not to speculate on the time, but rather on the certainty of its coming. How easy it is for us to busy ourselves out of belief. We dare not. Everything is at stake. Jesus, our Lord has conquered sin, death, and the devil.

Our way out of judgment is the way in. Into Christ by grace through faith alone. In Him we shall abide. In His mercy alone is our deliverance. There is a day of judgment coming.
