Listen Closely
Third Sunday in Lent: Old Testament, Ezekiel 33:7-20
Ezekiel 33:7-20
The prophet Ezekiel is known for his harrowing “wheel within a wheel” vision. But the book is filled with amazing pronouncements given through this faithful servant. In the process he loses his wife and watches as his people falter in their faithfulness to God again and again.
There isn’t a lot to comment on this week because I think of this passage as making all its own commentary. But it is critical to listen to what the LORD brings us through his spokesman. Repent and live. Don’t trust in your own righteousness. See your need and turn, repent, receive life and then live. Really live. That’s Ezekiel’s message then and now. As is true with all of God’s Word, if you and I will really listen, listen closely, then we will recognize God’s Word as the source and bringer of life. A life without end.
