Lamb and Lion?
Second Sunday in Advent: Old Testament, Isaiah 11:1-10
Isaiah 11:1-10
Funny isn’t it how certain phrases are quoted with great authority and familiarity only to be found to be in error when sourced? One such frequent quote is, “The lion will lie down with the lamb,” or some such variation. But the truth of the matter is that the Bible never says the lion and the lamb will lie together. Our reading gives the real line: “The wolf shall dwell with the lamb” (11:6a, ESV). It’s the wolf and the lamb. And that makes much more sense in context.
God is making things right through the promised Messiah. And in that ultimate correction, those who are natural enemies will be such no longer. Wolves and lambs are natural adversaries, not lions and lambs. And when God makes things right through Jesus absolutely everything finds resolution.
Do you have hope toward a final resolution? Do you long for all things to be made right in your living experience? Enemies, discord, discouragement, lack of trust. These and so many more are handled and will be handled for every future moment as the Promised One puts on display just who He is for all to see. So read carefully. We don’t want to miss what is really there. We don’t want to miss Who is really there.
