King
Last Sunday of the Church Year: Psalm, Psalm 93
Psalm 93
Our psalm for the week, this special week, says it all. And you don’t have to traverse very far into the text of this ancient hymn to get the message.
“The LORD reigns ….”
In the very first phrase we have the summation of all inquiry, all investigation into all things. It is a declaration of all that is truly important because everything else consists in and flows from this truth. The final Sunday in the church year does have a name: “Christ the King.” I like that much better than just heralding the end of days, weeks, and months. Fitting it is that the declaration of the reign of God comes to bring one church year to a close, but also to set the stage for the invasion of God into the creation He treasures.
“The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The LORD is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength.
Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.”
