First Sunday in Lent: Gospel, Luke 4:1-13                          

Luke 4:1-13

No better direction could come to God’s people at the beginning of the Lenten season than to stick with the written Word. In our Gospel this week we see Jesus in conflict with his great adversary and ours. And the weapon that our Lord wields so effectively is the same weapon to which you and I have access.

This is familiar ground for most Bible readers and it is encouraging territory. Our testing at the hands of the devil finds connection to what our Savior endured. And his triumph is ours if we follow his direction and his provision. And both of those gifts we readily receive from Holy Scripture.
