Faithfulness 2
Proper 12: Epistle, Ephesians 3:14-21
Ephesians 3:14-21
Faithfulness symbolized by a rainbow in the heavens (from this week’s first reading), visible to both God and mankind. You may see one today. May I suggest a teachable moment if you happen to see one with a little person at your side? Just a thought.
In our epistle this week, the great apostle Paul fleshes out the faithfulness of God as a loving parent whose name gives life to all His kids by calling them into the fellowship of His family. “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, …” (Ephesians 3:14-15).
There are two expressions of prayer from the apostle’s heart in Ephesians. Here and a couple chapters back in chapter 1. I encourage you to take in both in a true heart of prayer. The scope of each is grand, but different. Today’s has as its final target that you and I “may be filled with all the fullness of God” (v. 19).
God’s faithfulness for Paul is found in His taking us up into His family and “finishing” us with the grace-flooded resurrection of His dear Son. Faithfulness beyond words.
