All Saints: Second Lesson, 1 John 3:1-3

1 John 3:1-3

Just listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit through our brother John: “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2).

This Sunday marks the celebration of All Saints on the calendar. We think of Christmas and Easter as holidays. And they are. But really they are commemorations of the work of God in the world and for his people. And the other marks on the annual trek through the Church year are also necessary to be observed. Not for salvation, but for joy. Yes, even the darker days of Lent and Holy Week preceding Easter are for joy.

Now,  the joy from our lesson for All Saints cannot be outdone. First, we are going to see him. We are. And in that moment, as our risen bodies and new eyes are set on that glorious sight, we shall be changed. Seeing him, beholding him, expectation filled, we shall be like him. And second, that joy, that unbridled transformation into real life will last for eternity.

Change is coming. He is coming. Ready?
