Blessed Freedom

Galatians 5:1, 13-25

Americans love freedom. Well, historically Americans have loved freedom. The cauldron of American culture these days would sadly include those who don’t love it, because they don’t know what life would be like without it. Our letter from the pen of the great apostle this week highlights the wonder of Christian freedom. And Paul doesn’t only sing the praises of freedom from the yoke of the Law. He exults that in Christ and because of Christ, the beauty of the Law can now be seen in the lives of God’s Christians.

By His Spirit (cf. 5:22-23) the law's demands now become the Christian’s delight. Freedom for the Christian is freedom from. But it is equally and perhaps more powerfully freedom for.

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm there …” (Galatians 5:1a).

Enough said.
