An Uncomfortable Verdict
Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost: Psalms, Psalm 14
Psalm 14
Oh boy! Here we find words of our God that come to the point quickly, no apologies, and no place for backtalk. God labels us as fools. We are lazy, says the King. We are by nature ignorant, corrupt and immoral to the extreme. And yet, we are the focus of the most unbelievable rescue operation in history. You and I, indeed the entirety of the human race are so lost, we need the Light to be provided for us at every juncture of life. That is the truth of our psalm for the week.
We have one and only one place to look for that rescue mentioned above.
“Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!”
It has. HE has come out of Zion. So, “let Jacob rejoice and be glad” (Ps. 14:7). Rejoice indeed, O sons and daughters of Jacob. And never stop rejoicing.
